Description:Keywords
The environment of Toro Muerto, a major rock art site in Peru, in a desert area. These anthropomorphic figures are similar in style to the Rio Loa anthropomorphs of Chile and the Salta style anthropomorphs of Argentina. The figures seem to be wearing masks and dancing. The lines extending from the heads could be schematic representations of psychic powers or trance / hallucinogenic experiences (as a result of consuming the plant Yaje?). The figures could represent shaman. Ethnographies report Indian's fear of engravings, so the figures depicted could be evil spirits. Anthropomorph
