Rock engraving in relief. Three anti-clockwise, double spiral design on an orthostat (C 10) in the chamber.
The range of motifs in Irish passage graves is fairly small, consisting of geometric forms. These include circles, spirals, arcs, wavy lines, dots, circles, zigzags, chevrons, lozenges or comb-devices. Each passage grave, although of similar style, has different proportions of each motif, giving an individual character to each place. At Newgrange the lozenge, zigzag (chevron), circle are most commonly found, although the spirals are more visible due to their prominent position on the entrance stone and within the chamber. The apparent abstract forms are probably misleading in that they may have represented specific ideas to the communities who built and used the passage graves.
