This great little extension adds another long climb to the route. But if you have the legs and a decent day, it worth it for the views are the ride back down.
Follow the tarmac road (NT432280) through Bowhill house (there's a nice cafe in the courtyard here!) and up the hill behind. Keep going all the way up the hill to the gate at the top of the forest. From here you will emerge onto the high moor. Follow the path around and then back down (Queen's drive) to rejoin the road and the route (NT414297).
