When you reach the bridge (NN605071) on the single track road the road the original route guide tells you to go straight on along the south side of Loch Venechar. Instead, take a right over the road bridge and follow the road up to the busier A821. Straight across the road is a pedestrain gate which leads onto the path. Take a left at the path junction up the hill and then go straight on all the way until your rejoin the existing route (NN531084) at Glen Finglas Reservoir.
